At a large printing plant in the south of the country, the supply tanks of the ink presses are filled with pumps of the Johnson type SRT brand. A total of 11 pieces of which different colors of ink are pumped to it. Pumps are standard with 2-piece components from the 1st generation. Furthermore, there is an oil barrier between the seals which is fed from a 1 liter seal vessel. The oil also serves as a coolant for the seals. Required is to increase the sealing times and reliability of the seals.

After a thorough inspection of the pump, it was decided to provide this pump with a Chesterton double mechanical seal type 255 with a 12 liter barrier fluid tank filled with a mix of monopropylene and demineralized 50% -50% and API plan 53. The goal of this combination is to increase reliability and lifetime as well as to eliminate escape of toluene to the outside. Toluene is a carcinogen. In 2000, the first pump was provided with this combination and until now no seal has failed and they are still running. Longest operating time is more than 11 years.
